In praise of volunteers everywhere, but especially here

Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation’s compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another.

Thank. God.

Thank god for the fairy godmothers of the Cinderella Project. Thank god there are people in the world who will give up their precious, precious time and energy to clean and steam dresses, make calls, vacuum floors, clean bathrooms, schlep dresses, borrow trucks, get splinters, get low blood sugar, get teary eyed, get inspired and welcome girls they’ve never met before with loving arms. And thank god they forget all about how hard difficult trying emotional draining amazing it is and they come back and do it again the next year.

When girls arrive at the give away, they are greeted by caring and excited volunteers.

Meanwhile, everyone else is running around wild, rehanging, cleaning, keeping the line in check, keeping the dressing rooms flowing, and of course, keeping smiles on our faces.

Sometimes I can be a bit of a taskmaster.

Those dresses aren’t going to clean themselves, Andrea!

Sometimes we get to have sweet moments with girls too…

And sometimes we get to have fun

Always, at the end of the day, we pat each other on the back and congratulate ourselves on another job well done. Volunteers, we salute you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

  1. I am so sad that I am not going to be at the give away this year! I had such a blast year and I even cried a little when I saw my senior prom dress making another young woman smile from ear to ear! Have a blast this year girls! I can’t wait to see all the pictures!
